Building brand understanding before building a brand identity for Ella Stein.

The Ella Stein team engagement seeked a redesign of their logo and website, despite a limited existing brand foundation to build upon. The challenge extended beyond visual redesign—to first establish an understanding of branding as a strategic tool and its critical role in shaping perception, particularly within the jewellery category.

Posturing the brand through persona-led strategy and storytelling.

The process focused on developing a deep understanding of the “Ella woman” and defining a tone of voice that would authentically resonate with her.

Given the breadth of the product offering and its potential for future expansion based on market response, the strategic decision was to anchor the brand not in product, but in persona. This positioned the Ella woman as the central narrative driver of the identity.

From this, the core brand idea was distilled—an expression of evolving feminine strength and elegance: Infinitely Fine.

An evolved brand identity and system rooted in the identity of the Ella woman.

For Ella Stein, the brand narrative and attributes were defined to clearly articulate the essence of the Ella woman, establishing a consistent foundation for all communication and setting a distinct tone of voice. The visual language was distilled from the metaphor of an expansive sky, expressed through a minimal wordmark and a subtle gradient palette that balances modernity with feminine elegance.

A simple, scalable design system was created to ensure seamless execution—anchored in minimalism and refinement, yet flexible enough to turn bold when the jewellery narrative demands it. To further strengthen the identity, three defining attributes were established to describe the Ella woman, supported by a versatile typographic system that brings depth and expression to communication, resulting in a cohesive framework that guides the brand’s storytelling and evolution.
